......I suppose the logical answer could be that the stone Keiller went looking for was also a lump of the Swindon's partner and had no associated stonehole anyway.

I wasn't looking at that stone originaly.
If you look at Pasture 1 by the barn there are four tree's in a row. Between tree 3 & 4 there is a mark showing where a stone once stood.
Kieller dug nearby but missed any socket hole.
