Don't know if this of interest ?

This service was behind the chapel not the church so I suggest this open-air service is perhaps already a regular event as since the 1970s the congregation of the "Five Mile Chapel" have commemorated the establishing of a chapel community in Avebury in 1665 by walking from Marlborough to Avebury across the downs then holding a service in what in the late 17th cent was Samuel Cook's garden. This was usually a small gathering then inside for a sing along with the organ.

This amplified service may be connected to English Heritage taking over the chapel as a Tourist Information office just as the Primitive Chapel which was opp the PO was bought and demolished by the NT.

For more on 17th cent colonising of Avebury see "Changing Avebury" in 3rd Stone 47.

Just back from the centre of Avebury where I set up a telescope for the tourists to view Venus transiting the Sun.
While I was there some American New-Ager nutter decided it would be a good idea to walk around butt naked.
I asked him to get dress as there were children around but he insisted he had the right as it was his spiritual home and he was a pagan.
He didn't care that it was also a Village.
Eventualy one of the regular Avebury travellers explained it to him in American..."Ooi! Numbnuts! put some feckin clobber on or I'll get medieval on yur ass and it will probably involve a Maypole!!"
