NT don't plan on digging any of them up. They plan on making 3D computer models for an exhibition in the museum which you will have to pay to see.
Maybe HA should make some noise about getting the stones re-erected?

Get 'em up!

Can't see any reason why the stones shouldn't be re-erected - they were only downed a few hundred years ago and it's not like we're trying to protect an 'evolved' landscape.

As so often it's probably a question of finance (how much does it actually cost to raise one stone?). Guess it's pretty expensive so suggest NT start a 'Raise a Stone' Campaign. What the hell, even if there's a little blue plaque next to each stone for five years reading 'This stone was re-erected with the help of generous contributions from the Marlborough Masons (or the Pagan Federation or the Modern Antiquarians etc etc) so what? The plaques are there for five years - the stones are there forever.

Although I feel quite strongly that they SHOULD put em back up, I'm not sure HA should get involved with campaigning to get stuff re-erected, not least coz it's a bit at odds with one of our 'policy' statements that aren't on the website yet.

I suspect we've got enuff work with trying to get sites saved without pressuring for re-erection!!! Anayway, we'd betta take that discussion over to the HA board.... ;^)
