Thanks ES! I did it on Wednesday evening after a wonderful day down there with Moth and his mate Ginger John. We sat quietly as the sun sank and just watched the ray's light show as it made the stones glow and the shadows lengthen. Magic! With subject matter as good as that its very hard to get the painting wrong! (Although it would help if I was using a heavier stock than crappy old sketchbook cartridge)

Looking forward to seeing your pics, ES!

"With subject matter as good as that its very hard to get the painting wrong!"

I bet you I could f*ck it up :-)

I'm playing with acrylics at the mo, not as pleasing to the eye as a good watercolour (nor are my watercolours for that matter) but great fun with a big of 'slopitabout' factor.

Yes, Avebury is a wonderful subject, but it doesn't prevent my pictures from going wrong. Your style is so fresh and clear - deceptively simple, but very effective. I have sometimes acheived a reasonable watercolour, but all the muddy wrong 'uns have made me despair of watercolour. Now I do quick sketches with pastel pencils and work something up with soft pastels when I get home. Tend to invent weather and light as I go for moody stuff like my recent "Seahenge".

The light WAS amazing, but I bet my photies aren't half as good as that...!

The stones look like they're watching something, just to the side of the tree.
