The entrance was then and still is almost due west. It is debatable, though, as to whether this entrance is original. The part of the circle adjacent to the gate at the end of the lane is where the supposed barrow was.
Ah, so that would make the entrance roughly where the step over the wall is now? So the Quartz stone would be 2-3 to the right as you enter?
Have I got that right? Only the quartz is so distinctive, I'd have thought it would be made a focal point as you entered - unless of course, it has no significance whatsoever...
