Does Motte mean unrecognised or reused prehistoric mound?!

Up to seven mounds with similar geology and design. Does this point to a specific function?

Interesting. Does the Marlborough Mound sit in a valley bottom or lower area of the landscape? If the ditch was spring fed, I would assume so?

No doubt that the Normans saved a lot of energy by reusing pre-exisiting natural and non natural sites for their Mottes

There are a lot more large prehistoric mounds , sometimes with no apparent burials directly associated or at least close to other monuments like henges eg Droughduil at Dunragit ,Conquer barrow at Marden .Great barrow knowlton , Bass near Broomend of Crichie etc .
