My money's on it being a Norman cross.
Err.....

....in Willenhall?

Yeah. Why not? :-) Maybe not Norman, then, but it's a cross. It's tall, square in section and it's in a churchyard. Don't think there's much sandstone around Willenhall and if the church is sandstone it was probably made at the same time.

It's a cross stump. A Victorian one at that.

Thanks for all of the input folks.....

I'm going to make a determined effort to 'get round the vicar' in the next couple of days and have a go at cataloguing the column properly..... Wish me luck!!! Laugh!!

Regards,

Enderfay

Is it the main church in Willenhall? If so there was a church on the site dating from 700 years ago. It looks like red sandstone to me - there's a quarry for that at Codsall and the exterior of the existing church was clad with stone from there along with several other churches.

Saxon/maybe Roman pillar outside St Peters,W-ton and two other Saxon cross bases in the city.

Could also be something from a Victoriam Del-boy's mum's grave perhaps?
