Pryor's book doesn't mention anything about hammerstone caches (can't remember about the TV programme) although it makes note of the possible ritual use of animal bones. However there is a drawing of a cross section through a 'typical' Neolithic flint mine with all sorts of artefacts and wot-nots ranging from graffiti, axes, pottery vessels and sherds, lamps, picks, hearths and human bones. Maybe you're right that the lure of wealth overcame the fear of the unknown during the Bronze Age but I doubt if it totally disappeared.
