Never heard of it, but there seems to be a Merebank avenue in Croydon, which is in the midst of <a href="http://www.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=public&X=531000&Y=164500&scale=10000&width=700&height=400&gride=530784&gridn=164497&mapsize=big">urban sprawl</a>.

Is there anything to see on the ground of the Mere Bank?

sounds a bit medieval to me?? For some reason I have visions of ponds and fish. Oops that's probably a totally different kind of mere. Have you contacted your local archaeological department / society? I looked on the 'listed monuments' map on magic.gov and there int nuffin about it there.
