We're back! It took us only 8 hours and 45mins to drive from Ullapool to Oxford yesterday afternoon/evening/night with only three very short piss n petrol stops.

Didn't want to leave :-(

I made some good paintings, have sunburned skin and brought two giant Lewisian gneiss pebbles back with me from the indescribably wonderful Dalbeg beach. Didn't bring back one of Margaret's kitten in the end. We felt that travelling back with a tiny frightened kitten for that long would be cruel.

Quite apart from the stones *sigh*, the best thing was meeting everybody and spending a long time with them.

I am in awe of Margaret. Anyone who can engage a group of people in a howling gale on a bleak hilltop with horizontal rain lashing down gets my vote. Top woman!

Blogs, photos and paintings coming soon...

Wonderful to meet everyone. Many thanks to Jane for organising the trip, too. I think Jane, Moth and I agreed that Margaret was herself perhaps the highlight of the trip and her deep knowledge of the stones both astonishing and illuminating. Jane said to me some years ago now that travelling to Callanish was a journey on many levels, and I have to agree!

Looking forward hugely to seeing Moth's fabulous images --I've already had the delight of studying Jane's!

Glad you enjoyed it! Love the paintings :D

I think it's on the fieldnotes for Callanish someone says the stones look like bleached balsawood, almost lightweight. I remember being there and understanding exactly what they meant.

Good to see everyone at Calanais!

Sorry I didn't catch up with you after Sunday Jane and Moth. We had a horrendous couple of nights camping in the high winds at Uig, and escaped to the Uists on Wednesday.

Got back yesterday. I need a holiday now!
