thanx but this is doing my head in! i've looked at umpteen lunar calendars which all say the moon is full on the 11th so i dont understand, or is it more to do with the declination than fullness of moon?
i give up! if the 9th is the day i wont be able to get there in time anyway
:-( x

full moon is not the standstill point

Yes it's the low declination that makes the moon spectacular over the Sleeping Beauty and among the stones of the Callanish circle. If you can pick a date when the moon is close to full it's a bonus. The moon is at it's lowest in late September, but that's only a half moon and it's daylight!
No time for more; flying to Glasgow early tomorrow.

If you look at this table melys it seems that 11th July might still be ok.
