We stayed at the Hebridean Guest House in Stornoway as per my review on TMA. Did what it said on the tin, & I'd happily stay there again.

We also visited http://www.eileanoirceos.co.uk/ for the jewllery which was amazing, but the view from the window of her self catering cottage has to be seen to be appreciated - think you'd find something to paint ;-)

She was a nice lady as well.

Course, you could always try a blackhouse: http://www.gearrannan.com/
Another stunning setting (Aren't they all on this island?)

HTH.

we camped on the cliffs above the blackhouses last march, and the houses themselves are worth a look.

>>>Hebridean Guest House in Stornoway

yeah I've stayed there, too. It's big enough to have space most of the time, I would have thought (must be about the biggest guest house in Lewis!)

if there's a "but" it's two-fold: the parking (from what I remember) is right on the main street (and I mean about as main as you get in Lewis) and of course Stornoway is quite a way from the stones (opposite side of the island). Not many views from the Hebridean either (sorry that makes it three-fold)

Handy for the ferry, I suppose, and maybe if you were using public transport. But when I go back I'll be trying to find something closer to the action, i.e. out in the proper sticks. Camping maybe.
