I travelled for four hours from sheffield and then spent a further four hours on the down, I have a problem with my leg and was in agony in the end, i did find it but all the info on finding it is shit.
Personally i think anyone withholding info on the whereabouts of the stone is sad. Imagine some poor geezer travelling hundrds of miles sometimes with very uninterested people in tow as we've all done and not being able to find the site easily.
Yes it is a very special place, a place that should be enjoyed by all.
Look at the security at stonehenge, still didnt stop those mad bastards trying to do whatever they were gonna do to the heelstone.
I've never been there before and found it, anyone seriously wanting to find it for any reason can.
yeah you may flame me for this but not as much as the people who wasted hours and hard earned holiday time would flame you.

You looked it up on here and saw how crap the instructions were but then travelled all that way anyway? Honestly, the fieldnotes and photos do make it very clear (I worry too clear). I'd be pissed off too if I'd come all that way and barely found it, and I'm sorry you wore yourself out - but don't blame the information on here for your disappointment because there's plenty, surely you have to admit that now you look at the photos (did you print them off and take them with you?)

People were visiting it before all these photos were posted on the internet you know.. and they didn't have 20 figure grid references. And you know TMA hasn't got a legal obligation to provide the public with reliable information??!

Sorry for being grumpy, but not all sites are as signposted as others and surely it's better that way? Most sites on tma have no instructions about getting to them at all.. isn't part of the fun in actually finding them yourself?

Hi MD

I can't find the topic on this site right now, but I'm sure it was mentioned some time ago that the landowner would rather the location (or, more likely, just the map ref) NOT be published.

I'm sure Pete G will know (not sure if it was him that mentioned it originally, cos, as I say, I can't find the reference to it, but think it may well have been).

Anyhoo - speaking of which - did you not ask anyone over on the Avebury forum? I'm sure they would have been happy to guide - or even take - you there!

:)
