The interesting thing about RSC alignments is that are so similar to the passages of Clava chambered cairns (possibly the parent of RSCs ). Alexander Thom didn't find many stellar alignments , but it was believed that the recumbent was aligned on the midwinter sunset . Burl considers the recumbents could be viewed as being at right angles to the general orientation of the circles ,which is commonly to the East .
