I have to admit that I haven't even opened the book yet, Moss. I've been so busy and I'm so tired (cue violins). It's safely stored in a bag on my bookshelf and perhaps tonight I'll check it out. I look forward to it.
That S Goucestershire smr has all sorts of interesting things I'd not heard of before. I was filled with cheer to read how the lansdown road up to the A46 (and beyond) has been considered a bona fide prehistoric trackway. Makes sense though dunnit.
I think also that you noticing things like the ochre and haematite - those are things that are only spotted and recognised perhaps by people familiar with the local area, and not by ancient (and modern?) barrow diggers who come in for a bit of quick excavation and then take off again. It's good stuff.
