Weddings?

close

My girlfriend and I plan to get married next year, hopefully at aikey brae, does anyone have any info on who to contact about getting permission to do this?

Uh...the mutual parents?

Are you planning to get 'married proper' or hand fasted?

To get marries proper the venue must be a public place (so that anyone can attend and protest when asked if they wish) - by law anyone can attend a wedding.

Although the rules were greatly relaxed you can still not get married (proper) just anywhere. First of all you need a registrar that is willing to do it. Your first port of call should be the registry office in the area to check if it's possible.

If you're after a hand fasting then buy the local druid a beer and you're sorted :-)

I think that the English and Welsh Law dictates that the venue for a proper wedding has to be a licensed building. I can't vouch for Scottish Law though. It's probably much more enlightened.

Good luck with it misterdale. My wife and I got 'legally' married in the registry office, so we are now free to have the non-Christian righteously ribald ceremony we want anywhere we want (landlords permitting, grrr).

Have a look at this thread, its been covered a short while ago
