The fact that climbers have used the scree as a quick descent route means that most axes or chippings are likely to be at a lower level than the cave, due to the scree being moved downwards under the weight of many boots. On the other hand relics may well have been unearthed by this process. Worth a trip back I think.

I would highly recommend Mark Edmond's book on the Langdales, published last year. Edmonds was also co-author of the Bradley book.
