Looks like most other people would have done the same as you did Jane. I'm not sure I would have though. I guess it depends on how likely the 'correct' orientation etc could be achieved.

I've seen some really good re-erected stones (like the Iarsiadar Standing Stone) and those have had load of thought go into them. My concern would be that it'd end up looking very different to how it was supposed to be.

I lack BlueGloves' faith in our ability to get it right, especially with a ruinous circle. If I had a crack at it, I'd have to do a load of research first to see if the stone had been documented in its standing state.

No, no, no - I only have faith in my own ability to get it right - that's what I mean about the 33 years. It's a little less than that (28.5 yrs druidic training). Almost everyone else's stuff I find pure shite. And because its an archaic skill nobody wants to know. There are no students. Well who's going to spend 28.5 years learning something ?

There is no right way and wrong way in creating something in stone - I'm sure the monuments were torn down and rebuilt sometimes - just whether it works or not. And often when you put something back up a farmer (the farmer) will come along and push it back down again just when you've gone away.

That was down to Ron and Margeret Curtis who were very keen to line it up with the Bernera Bridge Circle. I will write up the account of how that happened on my web log one of these days honest guv!!!!
