Moel ty Uchaf ?

close

Hello all,

As I will be heading across the pond in April I have taken to planning(and I use that word loosely)an itenerary. I would like to see Moel ty Uchaf, but I need some advice/info. I will be in Manchester at the start of my trip, then I will head to Birmingham for a few days(i need to see the city Black Sabbath are from), then I will head up to north Wales to see this site. Here are my questions:

1.Is there a train or a bus that goes near a town in the general area of Moel ty Uchaf and, if so, how far will I be from it?

2. Would it be better to travel from Manchester, Liverpool, or Birmingham?

3. Are there any cab drivers in the area or will I have to thumb it?

4. Accommodation in the area? Prices?

Anything would be helpful Thanks.

unfortunately it isn't really near anything?
I think there are buses from wrexham to llandrillo (the nearest village), and you should be able to get a taxi from there - accomodation wise there is a caravan site over the road from it.

you can get trains to wrecsam from either manchester or liverpool.

While you are in snowdonia, try to get up on to penmaenmawr for the druids circle, and betws for capel garmon.

If you do end up in wrecsam, go to the museum to see the Mold Cape - absolutely fantastic.

I'd personnaly stay at The Lodge Avebury ... I've heard it's a fine B&B set amongst the Avebury stones ...

Are Moel ty Uchaf the Celtic tribute band covering the Motley Crew classics for weddings and Barmitzvas?

Devil's hair cut ... IN MY MIND!

Thanks. Just how far is Avebury from Llandrillo? What does it cost to stay at the B&B? Celtic Motley Crew tribute band??!!! What??!!

Thanks. I will check it out. Although that is a little bit out of the way for me. Considering I will be on foot. Maybe I will spend the night there on my way to Moel ty Uchaf.

Hi Mathrocker,

Do try to see Moel ty Uchaf, as it's well worth it - however, living as I do in North Wales, I can safely say you WILL need a car to get out and see a few of the treats here. My advice would be to get the train to Wrexham and then hire a car. Companies include (with telephone numbers):

1car1.com 01978 366555
Avis Wrexham 01978 351747
Practical 01978 844555
Wrexham Car & Van Hire 01978 314151 or 01978 314158

Llandrillo is very close to Moel ty Uchaf, and happily, has a rather elegant hotel:

alternatively, you'd be looking to stay in Corwen, Bala or Wrexham.

Be aware that Moel ty Uchaf is on private ground, and it would be prudent to ask at the farmhouse first before making your way up there. The farmhouse you want is the first right when you leave the main road and start driving along the farm track. Check out the Streetmap link on the Moel ty Uchaf page of TMA.

Any other questions about North Wales and its jewels, please feel free to email me; it's not often I bimble past the TMA forum these days . . .

Best regards,

You want to alight from the train at Wrexham. Judging by train times I think its equally easy to get there from Manchester, Liverpool or Birmingham.

When you get to Wrexham you want to take the X94 bus which runs all the way to Barmouth.See :-

You need to get off at the small village of Llandrillo which is about 5 miles after Corwen.

Theres a very posh place to stay in Llandrillo:

It's rumored Prince Charles has been there a few times to eat. Apart from that I dont know anywhere else, but im not saying there isnt a B&B nearby.

There's this place in the next village:

But if you dont have a car you are going to be very restricted being here.

You are probably best staying in Corwen, a pleasant small Welsh town where there are several places to stay. You can then get a local bus or a taxi down to Llandrillo eithout much difficulty and with limited expense

A breathtaking location, a wonderful reward for the effort and energy required for getting there! Total peace. If you haven't experienced this site yet, go. You will be really pleased you did.

Worth visiting Corwen for http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/4914 Good food & service in the Owain Glyndwr Hotel too.
