Thanks guys, I was quite happy with these three or four shots of it (of about 140), I had been there for about half an hour and just couldn't get anything decent, then it started lashing rain so had to decide quickly to sit it out or make a dash for the car. I stayed put inside on that unlovely concrete 'bench' stuck in the middle of it and fiddled around with the wireless modes on my new flash. Once the rain stopped I tried a few different angles with the flash on the ground and at last got what I was looking for.
Instead of crouching down in the bushes like I had been doing I moved in closer trying to get that feeling of the tomb 'looming' overhead.
Still had no such joy at Leac An Scail on same day, for such an impressive structure its nearly impossible to do it justice with all that stuff growing all around it and over it, I popped in for a second time and left with not much more than I got the first time. Oh well. The size of those portal stones and doorstone always make it worth it though!!!! What a monster. For my troubles I also got stuck in the soggy ground, took me half an hour and some serious rubber burning to get back up the lane!
There are some more photos of Gaulstown added to my webite today under here: http://cianmcliam.smugmug.com/Ancient%20Ireland/54224 somewhere, I also added some new ones of Haroldstown taken New Years Eve.
Funny you should call it the 'pocket dolmen' FourWinds, I posted this on a photography forum and got a few replies thinking it was 18-24" tall! http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1034&message=11810134
