Coarse sandstone (gritstone) predominates at the surface - with carboniferous limestone in abundance too.

I have a good picture or two which would help a great deal. I could add them to the Mynydd Llangatwg page - but it won't move past the 'Submission Guidelines' despite me accepting the terms and conditions)
