Great minds think alike, June. I've been trying to find stuff out about this place too (but with no luck). I haven't even found out where the name comes from or is rumoured to come from. It looks great anyway. Did you see it when you went on your walk recently and saw the weird valley formations near the fort?
Thanks Rhiannon,
I heard about it originally from a knowledgeable local person and then read more on Megalithic Portal (which also has a map). I was on a mission to find the well and intuitively took a downhill track between the hummocky hills - I had absolutely no idea the landscape looked like that close up, it was a revelation. The 'other side' of Roundway Down has a true ancient feel to it.

Having my friend who is a map reading enthusiast along really helped as some clambouring through hedges and electrified fences was involved.

Another 'Secret Gem' by the sounds of it June! Don't suppose there's any chance of you returning with a machete to clear the way for us to follow in your footsteps is there!! (g) Thanks for sharing.
