Am considering a daytrip to Penmaenmawr, but the trains are a bit tricksy. The earliest I can arrive at Penmaenmawr station is 11:20, the last time I can be back there to get home (the same day anyway) is 16:14, so not a very long time.

Advices requested then: is this long enough to get up to the circles, have a mooch and then - ideally anyway - get up to the summit of Tal y Fan and back? I'm pretty sure I'd have long enough to get to the circles, but not sure about fitting the mountain in as well. By my reckoning it would be less than 10 miles all told, but I don't know what the terrain is like. Any help appreciated as ever.

Personally I'd look to get a B&B since you'd want to take in Maen-y-Bardd, the Rhiw chamber, Cerrig Pryfiad as well.... numerous other stones around including the Hafodty circle. The Drum ridge would also suite someone like you.

But if you want a quick introduction to The Carneddau, reckon you could make Tal-y-Fan OK and start planning for the next trip. Have a go, but be prepared to want to come back as soon as you get home.

Yes, a proper stopover trip would be ideal, but would require more planning than my last minute whim approach! At some point I would like to do the circular walk taking in the Tal y Fan, Carnedd y Ddelw, Drum and Pen y Castell tops. All on the 2,000ft list after all.
