Much as I feared then. Minimum concession from any developer, unless of course it can be made profitable.

The only way to protect sites like Thorborough is to sell them off in 1-metre wide strips two miles long to members of the public, with 100% agreement before anyone can sell theirs to a developer, indutrialist of quarrying company. Trouble is there are only so many people with the interest, the income and the inclination.

Excellent idea. I'd invest.
Trouble is, guess who owns all the land round Thornborough Henges (and indeed the Henges themselves) and guess who's tenant farmers haven't taken DEFRA's grant money to desist from ploughing so deep, and guess who has been saying so loudly for so long "we might as well be allowed to quarry as the ploughing will have ripped up all the archaeology within the next twenty years"?
