I'm no t an expert! ( or welsh speaker..)

But I do know that mutations ( the letter change ) are different in North and South.
Garn Coch / Carn Goch is an example of differences even locally...

Would be nice to hear from someone who really knows!

To be fair I reckon it confuses the OS people a bit as well....

Apart from the usual rules applying to lenition there is probably a clue in the various associations . Goch is associated with Afon allt ,carn , carreg , dol but I can't find Coch that is . Coch is associated with Bryn ,castell ,cefn , ty and I can't find a goch that isn't etc .
