Re-erecting stones..if there are only 17 stones buried, they're going to need an awful lot of concrete pillars to fill in the missing stones by the way...
Surely we just need some walkers to take some stones from another semi-ruined monument (perhaps that one on Salisbury Plain) and create a brand new monument from that.

We must have enough bits lying around the country to make a whole authentic prehistoric monument. And perhaps we could have a nice visitor centre with comfy chairs and wide screen TVs showing how it was all done, with 3D virtual tours, so we wouldn't even need to go outside if it was a bit nippy. :-)

The scrapyard system has much to recommend itself, not least a history going back five thousand years, but would be entirely unworkable 'on the ground'. With modern tools and machinery it really is little bother to remake lost columns. But the skills to do that are now almost lost. (Cheques and postal orders to the address on the label, please).

There's still a lot of superstitious belief tied up in stone. How about if the stones included in municipal plantings and gardens were required to 'be in harmony with the sky'? I t would need to be ruled by the European Parliament, but it could be done.
