Hi all. It's been a while since I was here. Just been looking at some of the local sites that have been added to TMA of late. Came across Carn Pica and I'm not sure it really looks all that Bronze Age.

Apart from the name of the hill (Carn Pica) which indicates there *was* a cairn here, is there any evidence to associate this modern cairn with the old one?

According to this PDF from 1983 - http://www.breconbeacons.org/visit-us/about-the-brecon-beacons/history-heritage/field-monuments - I think you're pretty spot on:

"The name 'Cairn Pica' is now applied to the conspicuous, conical stone marker, standing 2.1 m (7ft.) high. But a few paces to the west are the mutilated remains of a probable prehistoric burial cairn, much of it having been destroyed by generations of passing"

So I guess it's possible that some of the stones of the original carn/cairn were removed to make this walker's cairn! :(

Hi Chris & Goffik,

It's nice to be back. Not sure how frequently I'll be popping in, but I do miss it here. Really not done much megaraking recently because spare time is short. What time I have in front of a PC has been largely wasted on Twitter, Facebook etc.

Goffik, it seems that the Carn Pica cairn is as Bronze Age as St Albans Abbey is Roman. :-) Perhaps the Eds could put some sort of addendum on Gladman's posts.
