I came across tell of this and I wondered if anyone knew about these stones. They're near the site of the battle of Hedgley Moor, here NU 049 197, and they're supposed to (in typical 'leap' style) mark how far Sir Ralph Percy leapt when he was dealt a mortal blow. Or maybe to be fair (and less comical) he was on his horse. It was still 10 metres though.
On 'keys to the past' they suggest the stones are natural. But elsewhere I've seen that a bronze axe-head and / or a stone axe was found near them. Some sources say large stones or 'great stones' so they sound not unnoticeable.
So has anyone seen them - whaddya reckon.
