This is what angers me about forums. So much energy displaced through the keyboards, so much endless discussion, and the trees lying there, in pain, unattended. Obviously I am anthropomorphising, but the point is there. And why do people just feed the birds in the summer?
Oh come on, keyboards can work wonders. You could always use yours to chase up an expert tree lover down there and ask them to tend it. (But I bet it's been done by now).

And people DO feed birds in the winter. Hardly any have come to the food in my garden as everyone in my road has laid out a feast and they're so fat they can hardly fly.

Fat birds - not in Newcastle. Except in old copies of Viz.

(But I bet it's been done by now). Bet you it's not. The tree skills are mainly lost. Urban deskilling - I've got them - nobody wants them. Chainsaw and chipper is all they teach now. Same with stone. Funny the line of consciousness - bit of tree cut for Queen - rest of tree cut off for a protest - student protest in London - heir and consort get jostled. It always seemed that the Holy Thorn was a druidic memory, of a sacred grove, that had adapted a Christian myth in order to survive. A shilalagh is traditionally blackthorn.
