Nice pics Anthony,
Do we know of any other Portal Tombs that are aligned to significant events.
I cant think of any off hand.
There's Onagh - http://www.megalithomania.com/show/image/5741/Onagh.htm

However, it's not about direct alignment. Too much emphasis is about direct alignment. Most portal tombs face due-east, so they're bound to align with at least the equinox sunrise. More study needs to go into what other alignments there are from the site in the way of notches & peaks etc.

Proleek was rebuilt and so its true alignment is uncertain. It's also a tough one to determine which way it faces. I have it in my head that the front is east facing and Sleive Gullion is definitely to the northwest.

I kinda figured that could be said about a lot of Portal Tombs.
Plus I agree with you about notches peaks etc.

Poor Onagh looks a mess.

Yes, indeed it is difficult to state exactly what the orientation is with Proleek. I suppose there's a certain amount of subjectivity involved in deciding that, but it's certainly not east anyhow. There are three support stones in total, one to the east and two towards the west side. The following photo perhaps illustrates the alignment best:

Don't forget there is a local folk tale which says Proleek dolmen was carried there by a giant from a nearby mountain. This could be an indication of the intended alignment. Slieve Gullion is mentioned in lots of stories like this about standing stones and giants.
