Doubly sory it is in Louth after all .
Unfortunately the "survey" series had not reached Louth when Duchas was torpedoed by the cost cutters in 2003, sorry.

Tomb alignment was a standard element in these volumes, indeed, each tomb class has a composite diagram showing the alignment of every tomb in the volume. So we would have greater than normal faith in the accuracy.

This is really an excellent series of books, with first rate descriptions and measurements, the plans of the tombs are very detailed, in many cases they are large fold-out jobs. We enquired at Hertitage Ireland which took over from Duchas, but they knew nothing of the series, so it looks as though it has ended with Vol.6 :O(

They do sound good . Have they done Meath ? if so , we could compare the passage s of Knowth and Newgrange as they are the only passages that I feel have been surveyed accurately enough with purely that aspect in mind rather than as part of an archaeological survey .

Nope, Meath was missed too. We were surprised, we thought they would have STARTED with Meath!

Most of the volumes were authored by Sean O'Nuallain, the senior archaeologist of the Irish Ordnance Survey until 1991, maybe that's why the plans are so detailed.
