It does seem strange that although the moor has been photographed from the air and walked all over by all sorts of experts that the circle remained unnoticed. As the archaeologist said they had never bothered to look at this small area in detail and because all seven stones are lying down you would not notice them unless you were looking....I even had trouble finding them again yesterday.

What else lies out there? It just goes to show that the OS did not spot everything..the Victorian antiquarians did not spot everything..and us modern antiquarians should keep our eyes open. The trouble is when you find something it is getting someone in the know to say yes or no to its status as an ancient site....

I have posted two menhirs on this site not mentioned on maps or in guidebooks etc....still had no confirmation as to if they are genuine...

On the moor you can discover new stone rows every time you go up there...but unless I am recognised as an archaeologist I know there is no way they will be confirmed!

Just taken a look at this on Google Earth - it's quite striking once you know what to look for - even using just the OpenGL drivers! Seven stones in a slight ellipsis, with a central clear area. I then checked the Lat/Long against the TMA entry and I was spot on :-)

This is definitely on my May list now, maybe as stop-off on the way down... parking looks straightforward too.
