Bloody hell Roy, i've just got your book [thanks], and WOW, and that's just after seeing your model, it looks really great and certainly how i think it should look, i'll read it later, but your models done it for me, Bloody brilliant work Mr.
Thank you Paul. I tried to say that I wouldn't disappoint but I've had to stand abuse, personal attacks and constant disagreements with others over how things always were without prepared to accept alternatives. I answered all the questions as best I could but nothing was ever enough. Now the book is out it will get even worse.
However, the personal attacks have done it for me and am now leaving the forum. I am really disappointed in the Eds that did nothing to reprimand the abuser who flagrantly flouted the rules about making personal attacks on fellow members and made me look like a complete novice at this game with nothing of value to contribute.
I leave with one further thing to say and it answers a question I didn't reply to because it was so blindingly obvious. How do you research properly?
You do it by firstly not believing what you are always told by your peers if something doesn't appear to be right. One 'expert' after another copies each others work because they are lazy and don't even attempt to see it differently yet become icons in the archaeological world and much respected. Open your eyes, look for alternatives and don't be afraid to break the mould. We amateurs only have our eyes, brains and downright common sense compared to what the professional has at their disposal. Use them!
Bye all. Roy

That wasn't the question. It was 'How do you research a Quoit "correctly"'?

Roy , I don't think you received anything like the level of abuse or personal attacks many others have received here and are still here posting .What is wrong with disagreeing , isn't that exactly what you are doing with your idea ? Appeals to “ common sense “ (don't you realise everyone has common sense and are often wrong ) “thinking out the box” ,”using your eyes and brains “ “don't be afraid to break the mould “ ( lol) are all meaningless platitudes , that's what we all do , what matters is not the appealing but the quality of the argument . You mention not believing your peers and “experts “ that also goes without saying , of course question everything , (btw your peers are those who post on here ) but there is no need for continual disparaging remarks about those who are not here to defend their views , but if somebody says that about you , you take offence .
There were than just the “'How do you research a Quoit "correctly" '? questions left unanswered and I hope you return to answer them and continue with other non Trethevy centred posts too .

Sorry to se you are leaving Roy as I have found your post well worth reading. It is very true what you say most of the "so called experts" are all afraid to think out side of the box but the comments they give are still only speculation as we will never really know how or why these stone objects were built. It is down to people like yourself who are willing to have a go and add a different viewpoint that make it more interesting, and hopefully will be of use to finding out the whys and hows in the future.
It is a great pity certain people who come on this forum only seen to want to make trouble and not add anything of interest or even post on M.A. It only seem to be this forum where it happens as I've can't remember anything like it on the other three.
