Yes, it looks like granite - pinkish, with broad flecks. But that exactly the same shape and proportion as Irish bullauns I've seen in photographs. That groove I know to be carved, from examples I know in sandstone. I am willing to concede the lozenges to weathering however !

So I've stumbled on something else controversial?

Some of highest more eastern hills of the plateau e.g. Bynack More and Beinn Avon have plenty of "marked rocks " with plenty bulluans but it's all natural their height is circa 1000m , what's the height of the highest recorded bulluan ? there won't be many at half that height .
