Anthony Weir notes that the 'shoulder to shoulder' construction is similar to Lough Gur and Le Menec (author's hand written note in my copy of <i>Early Ireland A Field Guide</i>.
If Lough Gur can be considered to be related then Castleruddery must be considered too.
In the original text Weir restates the stuff I posted above from Evans and adds that the same builders could be responsible for The Giant's Ring at Ballynahatty. I don't know what evidence, if any, he bases that on though, but could ask him.
The great Sean P O Riordain also stated these similarites in <i>Antiquities of the Irish Countryside</i>.
