Tool? or Fool??

close

There seemed to be quite a bit of digging by animals around the court of Magheraghanrush and something had unearthed this piece of stone (with the queen and the harp for scale!)

To my very untrained eye the first thing that popped into my head was 'hollow scraper' but I dont know what kind of stone it is and frankly it could be anything. It has a sort of chalky/rough texture but the edges are all quite sharp.

Surely it couldn't be... or could it??

Jus looks like a flake to me. However, I do know someone who found some flint scrapers recently (National Museum has been informed). Considering the only source of flint in Ireland is in Antrim it had travelled quite a way to be found in the Wicklows.

Just an opinion, but I would'nt bother with ebay.

It does have the shape of a hollow scraper, and you do say the edges
are very sharp. Yet the type of stone(in my opinion) is not in keeping
with scrapers.

Hold on to it and ask someone that is up on such things to give you
some idea.

I would be more intrested as to the goings on at the place in which you
found this, was it animal activity or could it be human activity?
