I read that with interest actually. I did like the idea that one of the slopes points to the north star. I reckon though if I'd put it up i'd have had it so you could have had your eye closer to the rock while you were looking up the slope.

I quite like the shorter idea that because it's pointing at the north star, it's about the night sky not the sun - the stars turning on the axis of the pole star, like a millstone turning, or the 'axis mundi' the axis of the world... anyway I'm just getting carried away.

Thanks for the reply Rhiannon, and you could be onto something. I/ve listed all the thoughts that came to me,but theres bound to be more to it than i can see.
The more i look at the stone the more geometrical it seems to be, but i/m stumped for ideas now. Maybe theres an astronomer out there who can shed some light on it.
One more thing, theres what could have been a cairn on the skyline from maen llia that matches the rising point of the midsummer sun.

Yes, but you'd get locked up for saying it. An archaeological site 'aligned with the night sky'. Doesn't make it less true though.
