You have to be careful around the south coast. The Hoe in Plymouth is more likely to have the same root as the Dutch "Hoek", as in the Hook of Holland, which does not mean high place, but corner or bend - where our words like hooked come from.

The Ho! in Westard Ho! comes from nowhere in particular - it is from the Kingsley novel !!!

Yeah i didnt really understand what you were saying Tiompan. I thought we were talking about 'lows' not 'hoes' :)
