TMA Refresh

close

Welcome to the all-new TMA, a long time in the making and possibly even longer overdue.

Seasoned contributors may be a little discombobulated by the changes, but on the whole I hope everyone finds this a more enjoyable and intuitive experience.

Complaints / bugs etc to [email protected]

Enjoy!

Well done Holy, I know this has been an absolute labour of love on your part, and thank you Julian for keeping it going.

I love the map. And the new site browsing by type and county is so much better.

It's amazing! Gonna go have a proper click about

Hooray, hooray for a new look TMA!

Love the update. Going in!

Well done sir, a few whisky drams and I'll find my round no problem at all.

Liking the map feature, a much needed update.

Better raise a glass or few your way :-)

Nice one Holy...
Yeah, took a long time but, frankly, just how do you go about replacing what was a 100% bone-fide design classic? My mind 'boggled', so to speak, at the time you announced it was an ongoing project.

For me, the key reason for TMA existing is to further awareness of our prehistoric heritage... not so I can have lovely days out in the countryside. So it follows that it is imperative that we engage with the younger generations who literally live on their so-called 'smartphones'. I do pity them, being guided to places by bloody GPS, but hey. I reckon the new mapping functionality is the sweetener to the old heads.

As TSC said, thanks to Mr Cope for keeping the faith.

Big Thumbs up, love the new site, and of course, even bigger thank you

I know you want bugs by email, but I'm ignoring you. The Latest posts page filter is not currently working for me (I've tried Chrome and Edge). The selection drop-down works, but it isn't filtering the posts.

Delighted to see some new and returning TMA posters today, if you rebuild it they will come...

Oh, very well done indeed! It's looking amazing! Way better than I could have done. 😂 Loving the mobile view. Thank you so much for your continued efforts. Although I lurk a lot more than I post, I've never gone away. Sorry about that. 😉

Sooooo happy fabulous refresh thank you and easy to use.

Nice one Chris,
Good stuff - caught up with responsive I see :-)
Pleased to see it remembered my login - nice touch.

Slidey nearby sites with pics - like that - I might nick it.
An option to switch back to the text version might be good though (or underneath?)

User pages are good - ours could do with an update to add images.

The map filter by site type is great - exactly as I intend to do it - just so you don't think I've ripped you off - long overdue. (switching 65+ site types doesn't work as you know)

Your map pins are coming up way too big on Edge for Linux (but of an Edge case I appreciate - groan) - and the map pins are going totally bonkers on my Firefox - coming up as vast coloured circles over Asia.

How about some mutual page-by-page cross linking.
Can you do a location based API I can hook into?
Or maybe even a shared map with a layer for each (web) site?!?

Until then I have to go as I feel a migraine coming on. Not having a go - I know it goes with the territory and it matches the book well - Just Aaagghh :-)
Cheers
Andy

Hats off and high fives!! That site works a whole lot better. The map navigation is marvelous and all the field notes, from contributors over the years are easy to access, too!

You genius, you. I love the way the fonts still make it look like the book. But everything is light and airy. It looks amazing.
Thank you so much x

Thought: would a ‘how to use this site’ feature be a good idea?

I’m delighted to see the site refreshed, and so well. What a joy to have a favourite place spruced up and with all original content intact.

Hi Holy McGrail,

Nice job done well. Just a minor niggle. I used to enjoy reading posts by certain members and sometime revisiting their comments. So many had a lovely way with words too. It was so easy to do when there was a members list, which was a sort of league table of members and how many posts of all kinds they did. Is it possible to reintroduce that feature, as it was a really interesting and useful?

All the very best,
TE.

Have had a bit more time to spend idly site browsing and noticed there is no map on the individual site pages anymore.

Is there a plan to bring this back? I used to love using the map to bounce from site to site.

Night mode, nice!

Just to say how much I like the embedded videos, especially so I can avoid using YT. I'm enjoying Matt's B&W atmospherics and Gladman's stunning vistas (and relatable laboured breathing) muchly.
