Oxfordshire County Council is promoting absurd proposals to divert lorries out of Chipping Norton on the main A44..... by using narrow country lanes including the lane serving the Rollright Stones.

I'm not a great fan of petitions as an effective form of direct democracy, but I'll make an exception in this case. Please sign and share.

Duly signed without a second’s thought. The Rollrights were my first megalith experience and you never forget your first. It’s like a sanctuary.

I won't rant here, not a lot of point. Have signed petition for now ... and will watch for anything further that can be done to influence the council's decision. I find it hard to believe they would consider widening that road for heavy traffic as it is used by pedestrians crossing from one side to the other.

Edit: On second thoughts pedestrians crossing doesn't seem to make any difference to heavy traffic (including HGVs) at Avebury.
