Uploading photos

Can I ask what folk think is the best way to upload photos? Do folk not worry about the dimensions of the photo and just keep it below 8192k in size, letting the website resize the photo or is it best to resize to max length of 960 before uploading?

Personally I used to upload at a bigger size and let the TMA software resize the image, but a change happened some time last summer which seems to have made the native resizing generate a less sharp image (it's also retrospectively affected some earlier uploads, which I mean to get round to reloading at some point).

Now I resize to 960 before uploading, which seems to retain the sharpness better. The other advantage is the upload seems to be quicker and less prone to not working, which used to be a problem sometimes when I used to upload at a bigger size.

I use an entry level standard Canon EOS 1000D, replacing the film version back in 2009 when that finally gave up the ghost. I've dropped it so many times I'm amazed it still works, to be honest.... that's the reason I haven't upgraded. I download to my PC via the supplied Canon software which seems to do the job, setting images to around 1000.

When all is said and done, however, I reckon it's getting to know light and shade, working out new angles that keeps things interesting. Sod the two thirds rule.. sod anyone who tells you you're 'doing it wrong'. Different people appreciate different things.
