I bought a pair of Regatta Great Outdoors walking boots about three years ago now and up until last week was perfectly happy with them. Totally waterproof, lightweight, comfortable and smart to look at. I've been over all terrains over many, many miles but mainly moorland and tors down her in Cornwall. Last week the sole on one of them just literally departed from the upper part of the boot and it was then that I realised how poorly they had been joined together. Looking at the other boot and flexing it, it was quite obvious that its sole also was about to part company with its soul-mate (pun intended!!).

So, what boots do you all wear and recommend? Are there any about that have soles that are literally 'vulcanised' to its upper? I've had a few different makes over the years but none who's soles came apart, just simply wore out!

Cheers

Checking these out at the moment...thoughts please? On the Bay but a decent seller by the looks of it...

I'd suggest you look for some online reviews of the soles/grip. Berghaus don't seem to use Vibram soles and I've read some comments elsewhere about their boots being ungrippy in wet/icy conditions. Might just be some models though.

Had a pair of those particualr Berghaus boots for 7 years, literally covered thousands of miles in them, on all terrains in all weathers, only just now that the leather has started to crack at the big toe flex point. Found them Instantly comfotable, never had blisters, bit roomy round the toes for some peeps, and sole grip isn't the best on wet rocks, but general trail, hill, mountain trails have been a godsend. Have useful lace locks, have goretex lining to keep you dry, and the leather lasts well if you give it a good clean now and again, and use 'dubbin' to keep them waterproof every 3 or 4 walks, depending on how wet they get. Swill out the insides with warm water and bicarb from time to time to clean goretex and stop pongy feet. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another pair. Think there are a slighyly cheaper pair with suede rather than leather uppers, but again, look after them and they'll look after you. As I said, my old boots have sprung a leak now, but unwiling to give them up, so gonna pick up an ex-army pair of unworn sealskinz to keep me feet dry. Hope you find a boot you like, but you won't go far wrong with these babies.

Suede edition here...had some befor leather upper berghaus, lasted about 6 years with care.

Brasher can be good, but take some wearing in. They used to replace sole of boot free of charge if you wore it out, or it develped a defect after a few years. Not sure if they still do it though. I'm guessing not.

Worst boots I ever got were when Rohan tried their hand at making hiking boots/trainers. Lasted 3 months before sole split on edge both boots. Cost over £100 when new, was not a happy puppy. Use 'em for gardening in dry weather now, but still pissed off at them every time i put them on.
