There is also Dove Holes, bit longer on the train, but you get a henge and a couple of barrows (about 20mins walk from dove). Plus a further 45 mins on from them a hillfort...
Hmm, good thought. Don't necessarily want to stray too far though, in case of transport disaster. And I've just discovered that return to Broadbottom is £3.90 (off peak), so nice and cheap too.

Good plan. Its about a tenner to Dove and about an hour on the train. You have mail btw...

Broadbottom
So I went through there twice today on an ill-fated car part mission. I hadn't realised how dominant cown/combes edge is on that side of the valley. It seems like a fair trek though, but that might just be because I find it hard to judge walking times when driving!

...............and if you need to rehydrate after your exertions may I recommend The Harewood, few yards down the hill from Broadbottom Station. It's a microbrewery, several hand pulled ales & ciders, and the only food on offer is pie, peas n gravy.
The Coombe isn't that far, but it's a long uphill grind up the old 'Monks Road'. Apparently a monastery in North Wales were granted the market charter for Glossop by one of the King Henry's and that's the route they took on their commute between the two..........
