Hi folks,

Sorry to jump in but I have been to the Roman site at Tomen-y-Mur and (as far as I can remember) doesn't match the description given by Sanctuary. The site is clearly Roman - it even has a reconstructed section of fort wall - very impressive it is too!
I have checked my O/S map and can't see any cairns / barrows near by either so I guess Sanctuary was looking elsewhere?

Hope this helps?

Aye, not a great match, I know, but my thinking was -

On the road by the lake
across the road from a parking area (as described by sanctuary previously)
path through woodland
large mound

I have looked at the maps of the area and lots of info on nearby sites and can find nothing else which even gets close to matching sanctuarys description.

I appreciate all your efforts guys but it was a long time ago now and I was just a youngster who didn't ever consider noting things down like I did in latter years and still do today. Pure memory but I do know it was along that stretch of road somewhere. I'd only go back if I rediscovered it to see if I felt the same way about it...but would go with a pal now...and Chief of course my other trusty pal!
