So many stories fae bothies .
I once spent the night alone in the deserted dilapidated Stronelairig Lodge in the Monadhliath not expecting anything too comfortable but the bangings , creakings ,squals and yelps were much worse than what the mice and rats had to offer at the Ben Alder bothy on Loch Erict , where the ghillie was supposed to have hung himsel on the door .
The nut case who thought he owned the Strathan bothy at Sandwood bay was very real and more off putting than any ghaist or ghoullie .
Squals and yelps?
I cant make out from the above if you're putting it down to a ghoul or a rodent(!), what did you think was causing the noise at Stronelairig?

I'm a sucker for a ghost story, add a remote highland location and I could listen all night!

Sorry , McCooks had the rodents and reputation . Stronelairig is /was a big dilapidated victorian lodge with only about one room habitable i.e. had half a floor ,it was a struggle to keep reminding myself that it was just the broken doors ,windows ,wind and animal noises that were keeping me awake .
