It might be (...a cultural legacy of these golden hat wearing priest-astronomers of antiquity...) or it might be a Disneyfication of those hats. Guess we’d need to find images predating the 1835 Schifferstadt hat (though there are some interesting and early examples here that might point :-) in the direction you’re suggesting).
