Perhaps the biggest disappointment was Channel 4’s choice of presenter in the shape of Simon Farnaby - a self-styled comedian actor who really brought little to the programme other than reassuring Philippa Langley during her emotional moments.
No perhaps about it LS, he was a disaster! Spoilt the whole programme I thought. We have got so used to the modern achaeological presenters being slick, knowing their subjuct and of course good looking, but he was a shambles and completely out of his depth.

Aye, though taken as a whole the prog wasn’t too bad - though somewhat personality-biased (and I don’t mean just towards Richard ;-)

Jo Appleby, the osteoarchaeologist, was irritating from the start; after bashing a hole in Richard’s skull with her little mattock she then had the gall to say ‘That injury is not ancient’ (or words to that effect) when she should have come clean and said right away, “Sorry, I just done that with my little mattock.” (she did but afterwards). Noticed too that said hole in skull seemed to have miraculously disappeared in later footage – bit of speedy remedial work going on there maybe. She then compounded her haughtiness over Richard’s colours (no, not his underwear, his ‘flag’). Philippa Langley had brought one with her (a flag) so, in the event that the remains were found, it could be draped over them. Langley politely asked the lead archeo if it would be alright to do so and he was OK with it. Langley then asked Appleby if she’d do the honours but was turned down with a, ‘I’m not very happy with that’ (or words to that effect) - jeeze.

I know these up-and-coming young professionals have reputations and a career to think about but they really do need to lighten up a bit. Appleby could have said, “Yes, alright, though there’s no evidence at this point that they are Richard’s remains there’s no harm in showing our respect for them.” Instead said remains were unceremoniously bundled away in a cardboard box!

Ach, maybe it’s a generation thing Mr S – we had more respect for our elders when we were young'uns (especially if they were royal and 500 years old :-) Then again maybe I’ve been listening to too much news about the appalling shortcomings of the Mid-Staffordshire NHS Trust. Jeeze, I’ll go and read up on Rhys ap Thomas before tackling your Dark Matter thread...
