Am hoping to visit the Hebrides - Lewis (Callanish), Harris, North Uist and Skye. All yet to be arranged so don't want to say too much lest I jinx it. Not an easy trip to organise for someone without a car but where there's a will ...
What's the penny situation like tjj ?... if it's tight note that the hostels I used on my tour of the Uists/Harris/Lewis a few years back were the best I've ever been in. Very basic, but thatched roofs, honesty boxes for payment... truly another world.

Can't speak for Skye since I've always camped, but what a magical place that is.

Thanks for the advice Gladman, I will definitely bear that in mind.
(Thanks also for good wishes tsc and Marmite)

When I went there to cover the 7 Hebridean Sheepdog Trials 15 years ago I couldn't believe how cheap the accommodation was. We had Oliver with us who was just 6 then and we were charged between £11-£15 for B&B in total. We hopped from island to island every day but I only got to see Callinish at length which is breathtaking.
