I wish I'd known about this when we visited the this region of Wales at the beginning of August.

I'm interested in the mention of the link between springs and sacred sites in this context, as one of the stones we went to see in the area (on Carn Ingli) was surrounded by springs - we took a wrong turn and had to wade through them.

Ah, y'see? They wouldn't listen to me! I said years ago that I thought there was a link between springs/wells and ancient sites... Course then people go around asking for proof, and, frankly, I ain't got none! ;)

Stuff has been written about the odd site being close to a waterway or source but I think with a lot of research, a good book could come of it (from someone with the means, the money and the time to do so!) I'd love to, but sadly, I gotta work full time.

Interesting article tho - cheers, Squid!

Also exciting: "A new series of BBC Two's Digging for Britain begins at 21:00 on Friday, 9 September."

Wish we had known about it too because we were in the area a few weeks ago. Darvill and Wainwright have had a 'breakthrough' in finding a neolithic tomb, I'm thrilled (put it in the news section this morning) there is a load of stuff around this area and I have always been on one side of the 'transportation' theory ;). A link to the area...

Start of September sees the end of many successful digs throughout the country , Orkney was once again spectacular , August was a great month for books ,"Gathering Time " and " Great Crowns of Stone " both as good as it is gets . Then up pops the Stonehenge brigade with tv progs in tow , to put the mockers on it and spoil the party . What a load of self serving bollocks even "alternative " archaeos would blush . What could have been an interesting possible chambered cairn , as recorded by Toby driver , has been turned into a henge with two standing stones and a passage grave surrounded by healing springs all to bolster a weak at best theory about another monument well over a hundred miles away .

Now that we have seen what D& W had to offer anybody not underwhelmed , or felt cheated about the henge , ceremonial site and pair of standing stones ?
