I agree with Ulysses, as I read it years ago. A friend was reading it at the same time, in unison, and it was very hard going at times. We aged together. No, let's be honest, most of it was hard going, especially the middle bit, which went on far too long, to be sure, so it did. If it had been 100 pages shorter it would've been far too long.
I'm a Joyce fan, me, so I am, but that Ulysses was something else.
